A Night on the Town in Nashville, TN
By: Brianna Nightingale
For nearly seven years now I’ve been around the Nashville music scene. Music is everywhere in Nashville. It's at the bars, restaurants, on the course of the Country Music Marathon, on the sidewalks, and on almost every street corner in town. No matter what the occasion, or non-occasion, the chance is, there will be music.
I’ve seen some amazing performances over the years and I've met a lot of great people in this town. If there’s one thing I’ve learned during my time here it’s that I thoroughly enjoy attending shows done by songwriters. They always tell the stories behind the songs and it's incredibly interesting to hear how many steps it takes to formulate their ideas. I felt like it was my lucky day when I found out three of my favorite songwriters were doing a show together the week before Thanksgiving. It was Nashville’s very own Belcourt Taps and Tapas hosting a songwiter’s round that included Bridgette Tatum, Megan Linville and Annie Bosko. To describe the show as entertaining would be a definite understatement. Plenty of laughter was shared that night, plenty of tequila, plenty of wine and water was consumed, and a fabulous banquet of songs was delivered.
The writers took turns sharing their songs throughout the evening and at one point they were joined on stage by Earl Bud Lee. Lee and his co-writer, Dewayne Blackwell, had given a song to a relatively unknown singer back in 1990, named Garth Brooks. He was to record the song as a demo, before the release of his debut album, but he was so enamored with the song he decided to add it to the album. The song was "Friends in Low Places".
Some songs from the set list tonight included: "Always Be You," "That’s Alright By Me," "Say So," "One Chord Away" and "Cowboy Can’t You Stay" by Megan Linville. Bridgette Tatum sang "Feel," "Lookin’ for a Cowgirl" and a real toe-tapper, "I Like My Cowboys Dirty." She also sang "She’s Country," a song made famous by Jason Aldean, and "Loud," which some of you may have heard from Big and Rich. Last but certainly not least, Annie Bosko sang "Caged Bird," "You Look Like I Need a Drink," "Get It From My Mama," "Fighter" and "Crooked Halo," which is currently out on Sirius radio.
Like I said, when it's just another night in Music City, there will be music.
