Ashla Taylor - Truth Is
Ashla Taylor is an actress, singer, songwriter, model, and to put it quite simply, she is an incredibly talented force to be reckoned with. Her debut EP, Truth Is, is available internationally for both download and streaming and can be heard across numerous curated playlists on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Google Play, and TIDAL.
Born and raised in the small town of McCalla, Alabama, Taylor is no stranger to the great outdoors. A big fan of fishing and camping made her a perfect "lifestyle host" for several shows on the digital video network, RatedRed.com. This popular network is promoted as "the voice of Heartland Millennials: fast, fun, smart and gritty, with a lot of heart", and this certainly is an apt description of the multi-faceted Taylor. In partnership with Verizon's go90, Snapchat, and Hulu, she can be seen on several shows including “Battle of the Baits,” “Camping Hacks,” “Combo Nation,” and “DIY Survival."
After graduating from Samford University, she arrived in Nashville with an exciting new energy that has been cultivated over the past two decades by both of Taylor’s grandmothers - one a poet and the other a rebel who burned up the honky-tonk circuit in the 1970's. She wrote her first song when she put music to a poem her grandmother had written when she was born. They both began introducing her to an eclectic musical smorgasbord that encompassed a broad range of pop, rock, gospel, R&B, and country. Although she enjoys all kinds of music, her passion for country music won out when her grandmother took her to see Shania Twain in concert. She was only eight years old at the time but that one exposure to Twain lit a fire inside her that she says, has kept her inspired and motivated ever since. Learning to play guitar, writing her own songs, acting, everything she has done, been, written, and/or lived has somehow, for her, been linked back to that one incredible, unforgettable, concert experience. Suffice it to say it just might be fate that finds her portraying Twain in the upcoming docudrama on the Reelz Network in February. Taylor says this is the role she was born to play and it is obvious that she has the same ethereal beauty and all-around talent as Twain and, after interviewing her, it's safe to say, she just might be Twain's biggest fan.
She says, "When I was asked to audition for the role of Shania, I knew I would not have to do a character study because it was a role I had been unknowingly preparing for my entire life. She had always been my biggest inspiration and my greatest influence. I am so honored to portray such an incredible artist", and in case you had any doubt about the sincerity of her comments, she finishes her sentence by saying, "To meet Shania one day, and have her tell me I did a good job portraying her, would be just the most epic moment of my life."
She goes on to say, "Not only do I get to portray her as an actress but I even get to use my own music; songs I wrote, that Shania has inspired. Oh, and that reminds me of another thing. We were the same age when she released her first single and I released mine. It was like it was meant to be. It's very cool," she says excitedly, "I think maybe my Nana was pulling some strings in heaven."
After all, she says it was at the urging of her grandmother's, her Nana Ellen, "a rebel who burned up the honky-tonk circuit in the 1970's", who taught her how to sing, and her Nana Becky, "a poet who taught her to write and act", and was also the one who took her to that fateful Shania Twain concert that set the tone for the rest of her life. Both of her grandmothers consistently encouraged and supported her talent throughout her life which is why she decided to move to Nashville in search of her dream in the first place. Sadly, both of them have passed away but in many ways, their memory still keeps her motivated. When fame finally does find Taylor, you can be sure she will be quick to give both of her Nana's credit because they always made her feel like she was already a superstar. And if you've heard her sing, seen her act, caught up with her in any one of a myriad of places on the Internet, or in the real world, you will most likely agree with them. Ashla Taylor has all the necessary components to be a superstar, however, her personal goal is not quite that ambitious. She simply wants to make Shania Twain proud of how she portrays her in the soon to be released docudrama.
