Keith Walker - Space Between
Album Review by: Connie Breeden, Sr. Editor
The first song released from the album is a catchy up tempo tune, "Friends With Boats". This song comes with two special treats, not only a music video, but for those of you who like to sing along, Walker has made it real easy for ya, there is a lyric video. But, I have to say, I didn't need any video to get on board this magical, musical boat. I was lost on the waves and in the music by the end of the first stanza.
I throughly enjoyed "Rockstar Parking" and I'm happy to be able to say I fully understand what it means to feel like a rockstar! Walker has a way of integrating the lyrics with the melody so you can truly feel the rhythm.
We all know an "Antidote" is a medicine or other remedy for counteracting the effects of poison but in the case of this cleverly written, uptempo song, Walker credits the love of his life with having this magical power.
The title cut, "Space Between", slows the pace down a bit as Walker sings a sweet ode to love. The song had me visualizing sitting on the back of a tailgate, under the stars, wrapped in the arms of that someone special. Then "Throwback Baby" came through the speakers. It didn't take long for me to realize the drum driven music belies the sweet, romantic lyrics.
I think every country singer these days is required to write at least one song that is destined to become a bar anthem and the last track on this album is certain to be Walker's. The title of the final cut is "Bar Stool". Need I say more? I don't think so.
For those of you who don't know, Walker was born in Louisiana and as a self-proclaimed “Air Force brat”, he lived “all over” the world. While living in Austria he actually became a trained opera singer at the University of Vienna. However, he spent the bulk of his youth in a beach community near Los Angeles. While in high school, he was pursuing an opera scholarship by day and playing country music in local clubs at night, but after a roll over crash in his pickup truck on a California freeway, where only he and his guitar survived, lucky for us, Keith realized that Nashville was where he needed to be.
