Heidi Newfield - What Am I Waiting For

After several years of fame with the talented band Trick Pony, Heidi Newfield decided to go out on her own and create music as a solo artist. “I wanted to be able to branch out. I wanted to depart from that simply because I felt that I could do more,” she said.
What Am I Waiting For includes ten songs that make up an eclectic mix of country tunes that will not leave Newfield’s old or new fans disappointed.
She wrote “What Am I Waiting For” with Jeffrey Steele and her former bandmates, Ira Dean and Keith Burns. This song means a lot to Newfield, so she decided to make it the title track of her debut solo album. This song “came out even better than I had imagined and what's really amazing about it for me, was that I was spilling out my feelings about where I was with Trick Pony at the time,” she said. “I think a good song should be one that speaks to people's hearts. This song does that.”
Newfield co-wrote her first single off the album, “Johnny and June,” with Stephony Smith and Deanna Bryan, although they did not write the song until the album was already more than halfway finished. Co-writer Smith also had a part in Emily West’s “Mississippi’s Cryin’,” and Deanna Bryan has written songs that have been recorded by several artists including Keith Urban, Reba McEntire, Faith Hill, Terri Clark, Blake Shelton and Deana Carter.
Two heartbreakers on the album, “When Tears Fall Down” and “Love Her and Lose Me” will be favorites among the fans. “Love Her and Lose Me” is an extremely deep song about, well, exactly what it says in the title.
“I hope she's everything you need and dream about / Don't let what we had hit you on your easy way out / When you lay down with her tonight / We'll see who loses sleep / What's it like to love her / And to lose me”
“Cry Cry” will be a familiar tune for some, while two more slow songs, “Wreck You” and “All I Wanna Do,” will touch listeners through both their lyrics and melodies.
“Knocked Up” is the one Newfield says she generally uses to finish her shows. She admits that her grandmother isn’t a big fan of the song, but Newfield finds it to be quite entertaining.
It is obvious that Newfield put a lot of heart and soul into her latest project, What Am I Waiting For, so I know that Trick Pony fans will definitely enjoy her debut solo album and that seeing her on her own, was worth the wait.
