Colt Ford - Declaration of Independence

By: Connie Breeden, Owner/Editor
Hanging around the golf course apparently proved a little too serene for former professional golfer Jason Brown. In his current incarnation as Colt Ford, country music rapper, he has amped the quiet life up considerably. With his incredible knack for combining country with rap, and incorporating hip-hop, he takes the genre to a whole new level with his fiften track, fourth studio album,"Declaration of Independence." He wrote or co-wrote on fourteen of the fifteen tracks.
The album has an all around feel-good vibe. He collaborated with some really terrific artists, from a variety of genres, including Jason Aldean, Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men, Kix Brooks, Montgomery Gentry, Jake Owen, Darius Rucker, LoCash Cowboys, and more.
The first song on the album, "Answer To No One", features newcomer JJ Lawhorn. This heel-stomping, up-beat tune, is up front about patriotism, religion, and his view of our world today. "God is all good the devil is so real so listen up yall' this is how I feel". With catchy words, and a great beat, this song is sure to be a favorite.
"Drivin' Around Song" features Dirt Road Athem's, Jason Aldeen. This is a slower rap tune ,that will have you wanting to jump in your car, crank up your radio and just cruise around.
"All In" features Kix Brooks. This song will put you in the mood to go two-steppin, share a cold brew with your friends, laugh a lot, and have a real good time. "Aint Out Of The Woods Yet" features Montgomery Gentry. This track will have you thinking about a trip to the woods in your camo, four wheel driving, mudding, hunting, and having a real hell raisin' kind of time.
"Back" a slower tune is the the first single off the album, and features country hunk, Jake Owen. It's a relaxing, thinking about the ol' times, reminiscing about Mamma's home cooking, when life was simple, and just wishing you could turn back the clock of time.
"Dancin While Intoxicated"(DWI) features the dynamic duo of LoCash Cowboys and the Redneck Social Club. This song has you bouncing all over the floor, snapping your fingers and shaking your booty, and will definitely be a club favorite. I think I wore the soles off my shoes dancing around the house.
"It's All" features the very talented country music singer and songwriter, Jeffrey Steele, who wrote Rascal Flatts hit "What Hurts The Most" and other big hits for various artists. "Hugh Damn Right" Do you know Hugh? Features Laura Bell Bundy. All I can say about this song is If you know Hugh, hollar "Hugh Damn Right."
"Room At The Bar" is a the shortest song on the album, Colt teams up with Corey Smith, on this track. "All My Tomorrows" starts out with a little banjo, giving it a country/bluegrass feel.
"Happy In Hell" is a real peppy rap with Wayna Morris of Boyz II Men. It has a mellow pop sound. "Way Too Early" features Darius Rucker. Have you ever been out, having a good time and the night is about to end and your not ready to leave? Yeah, me too. That is the theme for this song.
The last song on the album "Angels and Demons" features Lamar Williams Jr. It's about a conversation with God. Powerful lyrics, a touching song that reaches deep in your soul.
“This album is very real and honest and by far the best record I’ve ever made,” Colt says with pride. “The last two records—I stand up and cheer for them—but I tried to make a lot of people happy on the last two records and I took the edge off of it. On this record I put the edge back on there. I just wanted to make music."
On this album he has undeniably done just that! The whole album is a must listen to, there is not one song on the album, I wouldn't recommend. I, for one, am pleased as punch that Jason Brown put away the golf clubs and morphed into the amazing singer / songwriter known as Colt Ford.
