The Lacs - Lakeland Florida Concert
By: Connie Breeden, Sr. Journalist
What's better than a balmy July evening on a Saturday night? How about catching up with some southern Georgia Boys named Clay Sharpe and Brian King, AKA The Lacs. They brought their unique blend of country, southern rock and rap, best known as hick hop, to a sold out crowd at Boots 'n Buckles in Lakeland, Florida.
"Kickin'Up Mud", the first single from their debut album, Country Boy's Paradise helped them garner 500,000 "likes" on their facebook page and in 2013 it landed them at number three on the Billboard charts for selling the most albums in a week. I knew this was a concert I couldn't miss. I wanted to see for myself how Sharpe and King had managed to garner so many fans, so quickly.
Before the show I had the opportunity to catch up with this unconventional country duo. I wanted to find out all I could about these two guys who are rocking the country/redneck nation. I asked what they had in store for their fans and King responded, "We are working on a new album, almost finished, we are really happy with the new music, not sure of a release date just yet, but it's coming". I asked if there was anything else they wanted their fans to know? "LACtober Fest", was Sharpe's immediate reply."It's October 17th and 18th at Big Nasty ATV/MX Park in Bloomingdale, Ga. about 15 miles west of Savannah on Hwy 80. We will be there, putting on a show for all our redneck friends. We want all our friends and extended Lacs family to be there. It's going to be a blast! A lot of fun", he said enthusiastically.
Our interview ended when it was about time for the band to take the stage so I went inside to find my seat. Well, that proved to be impossible. It was a standing room only, elbow to elbow, rowdy and loud, sold out crowd and when Sharpe and King took the stage, their fans only became louder. As the music started, so did the fist pumping, jumping up and down, having a great time, and singing along. It was like no show I have ever been to before. However, I just happen to be a southern country girl who likes to go mudding, so after seeing The Lacs perform "Kickin' Up Mud" in concert, it's easy to see why their YouTube video has over twelve million views.
On their official website it says, "Their hick hop and southern rock sound is stronger than the moonshine they drink."
The LACS which is the famous short abbreviation of the Loud Ass Crackers are from the sandy dirt roads of Baxley, Georgia. A South Georgia town more famous for its sawmills and turpentine stills than for having a successful southern rap group.
The LACS consist of hip hop artist Clay "Uncle Snap" Sharpe and lead vocalist / guitarist Brian "Rooster" King. With a blue collar background they have worked shutdowns with the union and framed many a house to earn enough money keep their music dreams alive.
This was my first Lacs concert, but it won't be my last.
