Paul Alan Coons - Pour Me A Tall One
By: Sr. Editor/Journalist; George Peden
It was years ago. I first got into country music, swayed by the traditional giants of the time. When I first heard Haggard, Nelson, and Cash and the outlaw talents of Billy Joe Shaver hooked is the only word.
Those solid days of real country have gone. Almost. What spins today on radio and fills the arenas in many ways is a long way from the country label.
The belt buckles and wide-brimmed hats have given way to appearance over substance. The baseball cap and brain–numbing lyrics have replaced the heartfelt and often well lived lyrics of a craft that meant more than cash register rings.
However, out in the rural byways, far from the demanding and madding crowds reside the independent singer and songwriter. The artist who doesn’t chase or need the blinding lights; rather, they are happy enough with the welcoming neon of the honky-tonk.
Meet Paul Alan Coons.
Coons, an established singer and songwriter, proven with his 2002 International Male Vocalist of the Year by the International Country Music Association of Germany, is USA based with broad global appeal.
Out now with his new album (Rough Around the Edges – Pug Dog Records) he’s released “Pour Me A Tall One”. The Tennessee native knows how to inoculate misery into a song deserving late night reflection. With a soft growl, Coons aches over a love met in a bar, only to have her move on to new possibilities, leaving him sad and sorry. It’s, simply, a sound that spells classic, and, as such, is sure to appeal to memories almost forgotten.
