Rick Trevino - In My Dreams

CD Review by: Cheryl Harvey Hill
Rick Trevino is brilliantly talented, an exceptional singer/songwriter who has gold records in both Spanish and English; he is also an accomplished classical pianist. I met him in 1997 when I interviewed him for a local newspaper. I recall that he was genuinely humble and seemed completely unaware of the magnitude of his many talents. I missed hearing him on radio and I have been waiting a long time for this album. I am happy to report that the wait was well worth it.
In My Dreams is, by far, the best thing I've heard in months. It isn't only the music that makes this album -- it's the voice -- that powerful, resplendent voice.
You can definitely hear the Tejano, or Tex-Mex, influence but it is a subtle asset to the overall sound. When he sings the chorus of "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman" in Spanish ... well, I was already sold on the album but that really sealed the deal for me. In fact, I have one of his older albums titled Mi Vida Eres Tu. I think it is the Spanish version of his mega hit, "I Only Get This Way With You." I'm not sure, and it doesn't matter, since I don't need to understand the words to be able to feel the music and enjoy that magnificent voice.
It is clear from this album that during the break in Trevino's career he has only gotten better -- vocally and instrumentally. Truthfully, I didn't think that was possible and I'm thrilled to find out that it is. On a target scale of one to ten -- this one is an absolute bullseye.
