Richie Allbright - Kickin' Down The Doors
Album review by: George Peden
There is no pretence. This guitar slinger is real deal authentic. His simple, bare and melodic music is open, honest, and unvarnished. Richie Allbright, the former Texas trouble seeker, has found the sober truth of outlaw music -- the best way to beat the ravages of the wayward life is to sing about it.
Regular readers know I raved about his new album Kickin’ Down The Doors several months back. Having had a chance to savour the delights of the mostly self-written album, it still holds up strong as a personal favorite of 2012.
Now Allbright is looking to build the fan base, while making his music assessable and affordable. His latest single is out on iTunes.
When recently asked about the cut, Allbright was, as expected, candid. "Kickin' Down The Doors" is my life story in 3 1/2 minutes!! From 20 years of struggling in the music business, to 3 marriages,(and 3 divorces). As well as my struggles with addiction, and years of hard living. But mostly, it's about continuing to keep on going and not giving up through it all. And no matter what your story is, everyone has to do that. I do it my way!! Cuz that's all I know how to do.”
The track was produced by Billy Jo High and Jarrod Birmingham. With a solid Waylon-like back beat, the tune is a spotlight to the exposed heart of a guy who faces his truth daily. But the needed salvation is there, as Allbright ponders the past, while realizing that his future is about keeping on keeping on.
Be in no doubt: Richie Allbright makes mighty fine music. That is why I suggest you buy the single. Better, buy the album. You won’t be sorry. The only regrets here belong to Richie Allbright.

Richie Allbright - Still Kickin' Down The Doors
By:George Peden
A good number of years back, I reviewed the debut album of troubled troubadour Richie Allbright. At the time, I was keenly impressed. The album had a raw and cold honesty, something that just does not blend easily with the made hats and hunks who ride charts and pack arenas.

Richie Allbright is his own man. His music is his. He would do it his way. Now he’s ready to do it again.
There is a growing Texas buzz around the excitement Richie is about to release his new album, KIckin’ Down The Doors. Recently, in-between hectic recording and producing, I had the chance to ask a little about the venture.
“Since the last album, I’ve divorced again,” reveals Allbright. “It was a rough one… it was the second time we’d divorced. I thought I was going to lose the house… I was feeling hopeless. I thought I’d have no way to finance the album either. But, I’m pleased to say, a lot has changed since then.”
The lot that has changed, Allbright shares, is his newfound love for the music he plays and the music he is now making.
“We’re still here and going strong, in spite of what radio plays or doesn’t play…this time I wanted a more raw, honky-tonk, outlaw, less polished
feel.”
Share the opening lyrics to “Kickin’Down The Doors” you hear he’s, lyrically at least, met his ambition:
“Well I’ve been in love, and
I've had broken hearts
I’ve got it together, and I’ve
fallen apart
I’ve danced with the devil,
and I’ve reached for the stars,
But nobody told me, it was
gonna be this hard…”
The album, produced by Billy Jo High, will feature cuts of Richie’s favoured heroes like Gene Watson (“I Don’t Need A Thing At All “), Merle Haggard (“I Can’t Break The Habit”) and Billy Don Burns (“Down Her Memory Lane”).
If you like your music honest, raw, open and life-driven, watch and wait, as I’ll do, on the new album.
Regarding the tunes, Richie has the last words: “I recorded 5 of mine, 3 of my old friends and 2 of my heroes …of course I’ve lived the tunes. I can relate to all of them.”
Richie Allbright Kickin’ Down The Doors… still.
