Lacy Jay Syler - "Livin' My Life"

By:George Peden, Sr.Staff Journalist
On the rise performer Lacy Jay Syler has released her debut album. Hailing from the home of country hopefuls, Nashville, this 14 year-old has signed to Universal Records. And as her album title suggests, she’s living the dream, living her life.
Armed with 10 good songs, a tender voice, a session steeped in fiddle and steel and the polished know-how of manger and mentor T.Jae Christian, Syler’s long- held dreams of a music career are moving in the right direction.
Keeping the royalty cheque in the family, Miss Syler has relied on her uncle, Matthew McCarty, to pen seven of the tunes on Livin’ My Life. Good choice. McCarty has given his niece crafted lyrics to work with.
The album opens with a tune of loved-up trials and tribulations, “Trouble Maker”. Oozing subtle fiddle as a signpost, Syler’s teenage vocals find their passage with this mid-paced call to the dance floor.
Fans of teenage break-up songs will relate to the rocky “Dear John”. In the simple defiant act of throwing all John’s stuff out on the lawn, it’s a safe bet they are never, never, never getting back together.
Uncle Matt comes through with his penned tale of strength and inner reliance on “Living My Life”. The tune, keenly understood by teenagers and lived fully by adults, promotes to live with purpose one must live above situations and circumstances. And, yes, that also includes people.
On an album that delivers promise and talent, the standouts include “I Dream”, “That’s What Girls Do” and the radio possibility that lifts and soars with its advice from tougher times, Mama’s Heart Ache”. The last track, “Gossip and Jealousy” is a mix of technology and memory, as the blending of a dated family cut melds with the modern voice of Lacy Jay.
The CD is available now.
