Craig Morgan and Steve Azar put on a free concert in the parking lot of Meijer in Rolling Meadows, Illinois on Thursday, May 18th. After Drew Walker from the US99 radio station introduced him, Azar opened up for Morgan with a few songs from his upcoming album. The new CD, which includes a variety of great new country songs, will be coming out this summer.
Azar, with a smile on his face, sang his famous “I Don’t Have To Be Me,” and the fans loved it. Since the concert was on a Thursday, it was the perfect day for that song. He also sang an older song of his, called “The Underdog.” I had never heard this song before, but I’m looking forward to hearing it again.
While his band opened with a medley of well known country songs, Morgan staggered out onto the stage with his crutches. Despite feeling discomfort from the leg he broke during a motocross accident only days before, Morgan put on a great performance. He sang some new songs as well as some that he knew would bring out a bit of excitement from the crowd. “I’m Country” and “In My Neighborhood” are both songs off his last album, My Kind of Livin’, which was released last March. “Redneck Yacht Club” and “That’s What I Love About Sundays” were both hits; fans also sang along to his new single “I Got You.”
The concert in its entirety lasted about an hour and a half; there was a meet and greet session just inside the doors of Meijer afterwards. Both Morgan and Azar signed autographs but were not taking photos with fans.
